Sinopsis: Cuando a la californiana Susan Murphy le cae encima un meteorito lleno de pringue espacial y crece rápidamente hasta los 15 metros de altura, la capturan y la encierran en una zona de contención secreta del gobierno. Allí, Susan (ahora llamada Genórmica) se ve rodeada de otros monstruos encarcelados: el inteligente, aunque con cabeza de insecto, Dr. Cucaracha; el machote medio simio medio pez Eslabón; el gelatinoso e indestructible B.O.B.; y la larva de 100 metros llamada Insectosaurio.
Sin embargo, su reclusión queda interrumpida cuando el general Provoker (siguiendo órdenes desesperadas del presidente) pone en acción al grupo para combatir a un imparable robot que está arrasando el país. Victoriosos, los monstruos pronto se enfrentan a la nave nodriza del robot, bajo el mando del malvado Galaxhar, que exige la devolución de su quantonio (sea lo que sea), o destruirá el planeta. De modo que está en manos de los monstruos vencer su condición de inadaptados y salvar al mundo de la destrucción inminente que se avecina.
